I'm half-watching now. The hosts are Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin.

I was watching whilst cleaning up after dinner but I got bored. I don't like how they try to suck you in with a big prize at the beginning and then make you sit through 87 hours of awards for stuff like Best Editing of a Live Action Short Film Shot in Three Weeks in Fourteen Languages.
Steve Martin's and Alec Baldwin's scripted lines are kind of clunky. They need to let them ad-lib. |

I didn't even know Woody Harrelson was nominated. He's great in dramatic roles. But I knew the German actor from the Tarantino movie was a shoo-in. Everybody I know who saw it said he was absolutely terrifying.
I haven't seen Precious, Based on the Novel "Push" by Sapphire. I don't feel like walking up to a ticket window and fumfering out, "One adult for Precious, Based on the Novel 'Push' by Sapphire, please." |

Precious comes out on DVD tomorrow so I'm gonna pick it up. The book was great, but it's very disturbing. I'm guessing a few things were taken out in the movie.

I can't with Precious. It's just too sad. I read the wiki instead. BTW, Sapphire is a stripper name, not an author name.

I refuse to watch a movie whose title is longer than the running time.
The Oprah hosted the acting winners this afternoon. No surprises -- I'd read that MoApostropheNique was outstanding in PBOTNPBS. Standup comics are always interesting in dramatic roles. As Stephen King wrote, humor is anger with makeup on. I am feeling very smug today for liking and collecting Kathryn Bigelow's films since she was a relative unknown, for thinking she is a much better director than her ex-husband, (I never thought Titanic was all that great -- just a lot of fancy special effects, like all Cameron's other movies) and for hoping she would beat him in the race last night. Even recently, I recall nagging weeezy to rent Blue Steel, a real oldie which Bigelow wrote in addition to directing. ![]() |

Stand up comics sometimes win awards for dramatic roles because they are considered such a far cry from their usual work that they must be positively brilliant to pull if off. Sometimes you just get lucky. I'm sure she's mightily talented, but I'm tired of her awards-receiving. Just say thank you and go home.

We were so happy that Avatar just got some techy awards and nothing else. James Cameron just seems like such a jerk. It was even better that he lost to his ex-wife. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVED The Hurt Locker so I was really happy when they won!

My little kid and I were cheering for her too. And we kept inserting James Cameron into everyone's acceptance speech. You know, he just pops up behind the Precious people, or the Up people, etc. We thought we were hysterical.

I got a text saying that the Oscars this year were just Jesus getting his revenge on James Cameron for unleashing "My Heart Will Go On" on the world.

I still have to watch the Oscars. I have it on tape. I figure, half an hour, and I am done. |

Halo, I also find James Cameron a total a-hole (pardon my language). He's talented, yes, but as individual he's full of himself, and I dislike that.

Hey Weeezy, how does one say douchebag in French??
I didn't see any of the Oscars, but I've seen some reviews of the evening attire. |

I watched Precious tonight and I really feel like Gabby Sidibe was robbed.

In the clips I've seen, she is really impressive. I plan to rent it.
I have to say, though, that I was put off by the way she acted in the opening segment of the Oscars, when they introduced the five Best Actor/Actress candidates, who were all standing onstage together. She was swaying and preening, really posing for the cameras, with her eyes shut and just the most smug expression on her face. It was disturbing. I'd seen her on a talk show earlier in the week and she'd been very cute -- easygoing, extroverted and nice; not at all full of herself. |

Ok, I watched it.
1. I am repeating something I heard, but there was no mention of Farrah Fawcett's passing and that bugged the $hit out of me. It really doesn't pay dying the same day as Michael Jackson, does it. 2. I got confirmation that Jon Cryer and Matthew Broderick are in fact not the same person, as they were sharing a stage. 3. I didn't recognize Molly Ringwald at first, and thought, who the F is that ? Judd Nelson (I think it was him) looked quite freak-ish too. 4. Loved Katherine Bigelow. Loved her dress, her simplicity and modesty. I'm totally happy she won. 5. Looked like George Clooney did not appreciate the opening monologue. George, the camera is on you, try to be a good sport, LOL. Nothing else comes to mind right now. |

Just Jack! Jazz hands!
![]() I would never have recognized Molly Ringwald without the introduction. She's had a major amount of cosmetic surgery. She doesn't even resemble her former self. The Oscar powers-that-be responded to all the complaints about Farrah's non-mention (and also Gene Barry's, apparently -- I didn't see the segment) by issuing a statement that the majority of their work was in television rather than in films. |

That was the first thing I thought of when all the Farrah brou
hit the press. I always thought of her as a TV star. Not sure if others who were honored were of the same ilk or not. I doubt they snubbed her on purpose. It's not an academy-wide conspiracy to diss Farrah, Ryan O'neal. He should spend more time paying attention to his train-wreck kids. |
